THUS BEGINS OUR TALE
OF THE FIRST PROFESSIONAL TATTOO ARTIST!
(FACT OR FICTION? YOU
DECIDE!)
THE
DAWN OF TATTOOING
AND NOW THE
REAL STORY
Above,
you have just read my fictionalized account of how tattooing and
piercing began. The truth of the matter is this.... No one truly knows
how, where or why BODY ADORNMENT began. Everything is supposition
steaming from what little we do know. To accurately paint a picture of
the history of Tattooing & Body Piercing one must look at it
as a large puzzle with many pieces. What we do know for certain is that
tattooing is the oldest form of art in the world, predating cave
paintings. Every culture on earth practices body adornment of one form
or another and the art is constantly in a stage of transition. Let us
look at and connect a few pieces of the puzzle and see what they form.
(note the tattoos on the arms
and around the eyes of Egyptian Queen Tsei )
(tattooed lines and crosses
were found along the Iceman's spine, knee and ankle joints.)

everyday life's and more into the mainstream of our culture. Let us not
forget however those pioneers from the last century who helped to bring
the art of Body Adornment into the 21st century. People like Bert
and Gene Grimm, Paul Rodgers, Bob Shaw, Sailor Jerry, Stoney St.
Clair, Col. Todd, Jack Armstrong, Singapore John, Lyle
Tuttle, Sailor Moses and many, many more to numerous to
name here. To all of you who made the Renaissance of this art
possible we say, Thank You!
